Sunita Williams, the Astronaut, Is Prepared for Her Third Space Expedition. Find Out More About It Here

Prominent NASA astronaut Sunita L. Williams is undergoing training to pilot the Crew Flight Test mission on board the Starliner spaceship built by Boeing. She has completed three missions at the International Space Station (ISS), and this is her first crewed voyage.

In a press release, the United States space agency said that on Thursday, April 25, they would have two press conferences to get ready for the Boeing Crew Flight Test to the International Space Station. The mission is scheduled to take off from Space Launch Complex-41 at Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Monday, May 6, at 10:34 p.m. EDT.

According to the announcement, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams will go on a Boeing Starliner spacecraft ride on an Atlas V rocket from the United Launch Alliance. They will dock at the laboratory in orbit and remain there for about one week.

The mission will test the Starliner system’s end-to-end capabilities, including launch, docking, and return to Earth. It is the first crewed flight for the Starliner spacecraft as part of the space agency’s Commercial Crew Program.

Sunita Williams’s Journey into Space
From December 9, 2006, to June 22, 2007, Sunita Williams was a member of Expedition 14/15, her first spaceflight. As Flight Engineer, she was a member of the STS-116 crew that launched. Between her four spacewalks, which lasted a total of 29 hours and seventeen minutes, she set a new record for female astronauts. With the STS-117 crew’s return to Earth in June 2007, she finished her tour.

Her second space mission, which lasted from July 14, 2012, to November 18, 2012, was Expedition 32/33. Along with Russian Soyuz commander Yuri Malenchenko and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency Flight Engineer Akihiko Hoshide, she lifted out from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on July 14, 2012. On board the orbiting laboratory, she spent four months doing exploration and research. With 50 hours and 40 minutes under her belt, Ms. Williams reclaimed the record for longest cumulative time spent spacewalking.

Throughout these trips, she made substantial contributions to space exploration via research, spacewalks, and more.

Notable Achievements
Notable among the many accolades bestowed upon Ms. Williams—a former US Navy Captain—are the Legion of Merit, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

It will be Ms. Williams’ third voyage on the International Space Station, and she is now preparing to pilot the Crew Flight Test mission aboard Boeing’s Starliner spaceship.
