The US was aware of Israel’s attack on Iran in advance, but it chose not to support or take part in it: Report

US media cited authorities as claiming that while the US was informed in advance of Israel’s purported attack on Iran, it did not approve of the operation or participate in its carrying out.

Israel had given Washington advance notice of the attack, according to reports from NBC and CNN, which cited people familiar with the situation and a US official, respectively.

Officials confirmed that an attack had occurred within Iran, according to several networks. CNN quoted one source who said the target was not a nuclear site.

A senior US source told CNN that Israel informed the US on Thursday that it will take revenge on Iran in the coming days.

As reported by CNN, the official said, “We didn’t endorse the response.”

Regarding the Israeli attack, the White House did not immediately provide a statement.

The Pentagon duty desk said, “We do not have anything to offer at this time,” in response to an AFP inquiry.

Iran’s main broadcaster stated that explosions were heard close to the capital city of Isfahan, prompting the nation to activate its air defense system across many cities, according to state media.

After Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at its arch-enemy over the weekend, Israel threatened to retaliate. The majority of them were thwarted.
