US: A shooting in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, left one person dead and two wounded. Multiple gunmen are still at large

Florida: On Sunday (local time), a shooting incident occurred in the downtown area of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, leaving one person dead and two injured. As a result, authorities requested that people seek shelter. According to the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, the area will be closed until further notice while officers search for what they believe to be several shooters.

A few hours later, the department said on X that “the shelter in place has been lifted, but officers are still working the scene.” Hundreds of people enjoying St. Patrick’s Day raced out onto the beach to escape the panic as around ten gunshots were heard.

Authorities in Jacksonville Beach Police, according to Sergeant Tonya Tator, are still hunting for suspects. Tator informed reporters that the incident occurred “out in the open,” not “inside a pub,” and urged anybody with information to contact the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

Numerous media sources state that all restaurants and pubs are closed. Law enforcement officers from all around Florida have been informed, and the two wounded individuals are now listed as being in stable condition. In Jacksonville Beach, there are around 23,830 residents.

Following the shooting of seven persons in the Shaw area of Washington at approximately three in the morning, police were hunting for a lone shooter.

The five wounded individuals were all transported to nearby hospitals, according to Jeffrey Carroll, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant chief. He added that the victims are all adults. The status of those wounded and the circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately disclosed by the police.

Violent crime in the District of Columbia has increased dramatically, rising by 39% in 2023. The expansion in carjackings, which almost doubled, and a 35% increase in killings were the main causes of the increase.
