Late on Friday, Nepal was shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4, which claimed at least 129 lives. The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre said that the earthquake, which had its epicenter in the Jajarkot area of the nation, was detected at 11:47 p.m.

In expressing his sympathies for the deaths and destruction caused by the strong earthquake in Nepal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that India is in solidarity with that country. “Deeply saddened by loss of lives and damage due to the earthquake in Nepal,” he said on the microblogging platform X. A powerful earthquake that started at midnight on Friday in Nepal’s Jajarkot area claimed the lives of at least 128 people. In the country’s Jajarkot and Rukum districts, 80 people lost their lives, while over 140 more were injured.
Four hospitals in the nation have been designated as special hospitals for those afflicted by earthquakes: Bheri Hospital, Kohalpur Medical College, Nepalgunj Military Hospital, and Police Hospital. Some wounded people are reportedly receiving care at the Surkhet District Hospital as well, according to authorities.
Pushpakamal Dahal, often known as “Prachanda,” the prime minister of Nepal, departed early on Saturday to tour the impacted regions of the nation.
According to authorities in Nepal, all helicopter operators have been instructed to be ready to help evacuate wounded people out of the impacted districts. For the same reason, regular flying operations have also been halted. The authorities went on to say that there have been directives to post an ambulance at the military barrack helipad and Nepalgunj Airport.
Additionally, the prime minister has directed the Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, and Nepal Police to begin rescue and relief efforts right now.
Western Nepal’s Jajarkot and Rukum districts were the most affected, according to state-run Nepal Television.
After the strong earthquake, many buildings and other structures are in ruins. Officials claim that rescue and relief efforts at the scene have been hindered since roads were closed and bridges were destroyed.
As to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the earthquake that struck the Jajarkot district at 11:47 p.m. had its epicentre in that area.
The earthquake’s effects were felt in a few neighboring Indian states. There were also significant earthquakes late on Friday in New Delhi, the nation’s capital.
The US Geological Survey said that the earthquake’s vibrations struck the country’s far western region at a depth of only 18 kilometers (11 miles).
Nepal is situated on a significant geological fault where the Eurasian plate meets the Indian tectonic plate. The Himalayas formed as a result of this millennia ago. It should be mentioned that this country in the Himalayas experiences earthquakes often.
