In FY24, the government portal had 1.09 crore jobs instead of the 87.27 lakh jobs that were applied for

An intriguing pattern was seen in the job openings advertised on the National Career Service (NCS), the government’s employment site. According to NCS statistics, there were much more jobs offered via the portal in the fiscal year 2023–24 than there were job searchers.

According to NCS statistics, there were 87,27,900 job searchers registered on the platform in FY24, compared to 1,092,4161 job openings.

According to the statistics, there was an almost three-fold increase in the number of positions offered on the site in FY24, or 214%, compared to the previous year. Employers advertised 1,092,4161 job openings on the platform in FY24, compared to 34,81,944 in FY23. In contrast, there was only a 53% increase in the number of job applicants, from 57,20,748 in FY23 to 87,20,900 in FY24.

According to a senior government official who spoke with ANI, the increase in job openings is indicative of faster economic development. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman predicted in Mumbai on March 30 of this year that India’s GDP may expand by at least 8% in FY24.

“You had three quarters of growth above 8 percent, and hopefully, the fourth quarter, which ends tomorrow, will also be 8 percent or above 8 percent, resulting in 2023–24 having a GDP growth of 8 percent or above 8 percent,” said Sitharaman.

With 46,68,845 job openings advertised on the NCS site in FY24—a 134% increase from the previous year—the banking and insurance industry had the most job openings. The operations and support industry came next, with 14,46,404 posted vacancies—a 286 percent increase over the previous year. The number of job openings in the civil and construction industries increased to 11,75,900 from only 9396 in FY23. The number of job openings in various service-related fields increased by 199 percent in FY24 to 10,70,206, from 3,58,177 in FY23.

Additionally, according to NCS statistics, the number of job openings in the manufacturing sector increased by 526 percent between FY24 and FY23, from 1,10,175 to 6,89,466 positions. Comparably, there was a notable increase in the number of job openings in other industries, including IT and communications, transportation and storage, education, and specialized professional services.

Employers listed jobs on the NCS site for individuals with various skill sets and educational backgrounds.

68,77,532 positions were listed for the 12th round, a 179% increase over FY23. 27,04,280 jobs were listed for those passing the tenth grade or lower, a 452 percent increase from the previous year. In FY24, 4,02,192 positions were listed for ITI and diploma holders, a 378 percent increase from the previous year.

There were 7,33,277 jobs offered on the platform just for graduates, which was 128 percent higher than in FY23. Postgraduate, PhD, or PG certificate holders accounted for 60,531 jobs, or 123% more than in FY23.

According to the information on the government website, there was sufficient employment available to suit the needs of all job seekers. Jobs with low skill levels and poor pay were more in demand. With 15,64,800 active firms on the NCS employment site, there are 89% more employers than there were in FY23.
