putting a pink thread through it

Modern Jaipur, the designer Punit Balana’s most recent Spring Summer 24 collection, captures the spirit of Jaipur’s vivacity and grandeur. The designer incorporates his image of the city into the outfits, showcasing a magnificent interpretation of his hometown of ten years.

Punit was taken to a polo match on his second day of arrival in the Pink City, which enabled him to experience the flash and glamor of Jaipur city life for the first time. Punit recalls that the city was “everything one would read about the high society life of Jaipur with royals and aristocrats,” with women sipping champagne in chiffon saris and men smoking cigars in two-piece suits. Punit now incorporates his imagination and interpretation of the Jaipur life into the distinctive print aesthetic and traditional garment construction techniques.

“My cherished hometown’s bright personality and timeless beauty are celebrated in the Modern Jaipur collection. Punit said, “Modern Jaipur isn’t just fashion; it’s a cultural journey that becomes a part of your essence. Whether you’re in the heart of Jaipur or amidst the bustling streets of other cosmopolitan cities, this collection is very personal and special to me.”

The collection isn’t hesitant to make a dramatic statement while paying tribute to the past and embracing the brightness of modern life. It offers a variety of Mughal-inspired classic saris, chic skirts, ghagri maxis, exquisitely constructed gotta lehengas, and more. Each pattern and style is surprisingly avant-garde. “We feature fashionable shorts teamed with stylish jackets, creating a modern and classy combination, for those looking for a contemporary touch. “Our collection embodies the essence of versatility and inclusivity, with varied silhouettes designed to appeal to both Gen Z fashionistas and a global audience,” the designer said.

Every item has a contemporary charm, and one can easily see young ladies wearing these clothes.

This spring and summer, we are launching three distinctive colors: moonga, gulaabi, and masom. The modern Jaipur style is well embodied by the designs’ boldness and the palette’s softness. My choice of color was influenced by the many monga stones I saw while wandering about the city. Masoom gulab is a reflection of its namesake, embodying innocence, purity, and surreal beauty, according to the designer.

The rich legacy of Mughal architecture and culture is evident in the collection’s exquisite features, which include resham work, pittin work, and coin work with the PD trademark insignia. “The standout piece is the exquisite Upal, adorned with sweet pollen detailing — a signature element that sets it apart,” he adds, highlighting a few significant pieces. This important item displays painstaking workmanship and raw PD characteristic coin details, a method that perfectly captures our commitment to innovation. We’ve improved and expanded on this method, exploring new avenues and pushing the limits of design, building upon the success of our previous collection. Our collection’s standout piece is the iconic Mohsett, which is renowned for its unusual design.
