Rinky Chakma, the 2017 Miss India Tripura finalist, passes away at age 29 from cancer

After a courageous fight against illness, Rinky Chakma, the 2017 Femina Miss India Tripura winner, regrettably died away at the age of 29. In 2022, she was first diagnosed with breast cancer, and a tumor was surgically removed. Chemotherapy could not stop the disease from spreading to her lungs and ultimately to her brain, where it resulted in a brain tumor. Her health deteriorated despite her brave battle, and she was unable to continue treatment. Her passing was announced by the pageant’s official Instagram account, which also paid tribute to her elegance and tenacity.

The organization expressed its sorrow at her passing in a touching message on Instagram, characterizing her as a remarkable lady who personified grace and purpose. “We share the news of Rinky Chakma’s death, Femina Miss India Tripura 2017, with great grief. A wonderful lady who embodied elegance and purpose, Rinky was definitely a force to be reckoned with. The remark said, “She was honored with the title of Miss Beauty with a Purpose, a testament to her impactful endeavours and compassionate spirit, while representing Tripura in the Femina Miss India 2017 pageant.”

Rinky’s life drastically changed in 2022 when she was diagnosed with Malignant Phyllodes Tumour, an unusual type of breast cancer. After the tumor was surgically removed, she had a rigorous course of treatment that included chemotherapy. Sadly, the disease progressed to her brain via metastases. It became impractical to continue treatment as her health deteriorated. After being admitted to Max Hospital Saket on February 22, she was put on an Intensive Care Unit ventilator.

Rinky recently used Instagram to make a request for money to help with her medical bills. To help collect money for Rinky’s medical care, her close friend and 2017 Femina Miss India runner-up, Priyanka Kumari, posted Rinky’s medical records on social media. “Hello, we are raising funds for our friend Rinky Chakma,” she stated in her post. She has been fighting cancer for the last two years, and her family has used up all of their resources. She underwent surgery for breast cancer earlier, but the disease eventually spread to her brain and lungs. She was receiving chemotherapy at Delhi’s Aiims. She was released from the hospital until her condition improved since, regrettably, her condition worsened and she could no longer tolerate chemotherapy.

Rinky Chakma’s path into pageantry began when she became victorious in the Miss India Tripura 2017 contest. She was recognized as a finalist in the Miss India pageant, having taken home the titles of Miss Congeniality and Beauty With a Purpose. Remarkably, Manushi Chhillar won the Miss India World and Miss World crowns in the same year.
