Every year since 2011, January 25 has been observed as National Voters’ Day. This day marks the founding of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which was founded in 1950 with the goal of raising voter awareness and promoting electoral participation. ECI is commemorating the 14th National Voters’ Day (NVD) this year. The day is also used to encourage voter registration in honor of the country’s voters, particularly among recently eligible youth.

Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) are given to new voters and acknowledged on National Voters’ Day celebrations around the nation. One of the biggest events in the nation, National Voters’ Day is observed on all scales, from the national to the polling place.

History of National Voters Day
The Union Council of Ministers launched National Voters’ Day in 2011 as a response to the low voter registration rate among eligible young, under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the time.

Young individuals who are eligible to vote were found to be hesitant to register, which made it necessary to set aside a specific day to locate them, register them, and give them their EPIC cards. This commemoration was set for January 25, to mark the anniversary of the Election Commission’s inception on that day in 1950.

National Voters Day: An Important Occasion
In addition to identifying eligible voters and encouraging people to cast ballots, the Indian government observes National Voters’ Day to reassure citizens about the security and fairness of the election process. Annually, election officials at the district and state levels, as well as staff workers from agencies, PSUs, CSOs, and the media, receive the National Awards. A number of districts hold contests and cultural events to raise awareness of the value of voting.
