12 pupils are hurt after a driver in Barnala crashes a bus into a truck

Up to twelve pupils from a private school were hurt when the bus they were riding in on Friday morning collided with a truck close to Dhanaula in Barnala. Injuries also included the lady assistant and the bus driver.

The bus had picked up pupils from many nearby villages and was on its route to Green Field Convent School in Dangarh (Barnala). Following their emergency transportation to the government hospital in Dhanaula, three critically wounded pupils were sent to the civil hospital in Barnala.

The driver, Buta Singh, crashed the bus into the truck from behind, according to Inspector Kirpal Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) at Dhanaula. He was the subject of an IPC case under Sections 283, 427, and 337 for careless driving, according to the police. He said the driver was receiving treatment and that when he was released from the hospital, further legal action would be taken against him.

Of the three badly wounded students, one suffered a brain injury and was brought to AIIMS, Bathinda, while the other two were sent to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, according to Dr. Harinder Sharma, a civil surgeon from Barnala. He also said that after treatment, the third student—who suffered a fracture—was released.
