5 detained in Amritsar for assaulting the Excise Department team

Five people were apprehended by the police for assaulting an Excise Department team within a day after the event that occurred here today. Rakesh Kumar, also known as Bhiaya, his wife Nisha, Sahil Mehra, a resident of Kot Atma Singh Bansa Wala Bazaar, Anil Kumar, a resident of Guru Har Rai Colony, 88-Foot-Road, and Akash, a resident of Rambagh, have been named as the arrested suspects.

Excise Inspector Ravinder Singh’s complaint led to the registration of a case. When a police squad and Excise Inspector Ram Murthy searched Bansa Wala Bazar and Hotel White Tulip on April 14, Ravinder notified the authorities about it. Officials on board the team’s car saw that Rakesh and his spouse, Nisha, Akash, Bhola Bhiaya, Hira, Chetan, Gulli, Sahil, Ankug, Ghogu, and twenty to twenty-five more people were standing on the roadway with bricks and sharp weapons.

The suspects assaulted the authorities as the team got out of the car, hitting driver Rajpal Singh in the head and ripping head constable Ranjit Singh’s clothes. Threatening authorities, the criminals threw bricks at the team. The suspects later left the area.

A case was filed at the Division A police station under Sections 186, 353, 323, 325, 506, 160, 148, and 149 based on the Excise Inspector’s allegation.

Within twenty-four hours after the occurrence, a police squad headed by Inspector Ravinder Bhardwaj, SHO, Division A police station, apprehended the accused on the orders of Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, and Gurinderbir Singh, ACP (East), Amritsar. According to the police, the suspects will appear in court to request their remand for questioning. While Akash was charged with violating the Excise Act last year, Rakesh was already dealing with instances of attempted murder, violation of the Arms Act, and auto theft.
