A boy with a rare condition receives a liver transplant at a hospital in Hyderabad

A 12-year-old kid with Alagille syndrome, a rare genetic condition, received a fresh lease on life at city-based Care Hospitals after a successful liver transplant operation.

About 1 in 100,000 children have Alagille syndrome, and prompt diagnosis and treatment are necessary for the best possible result. The management of increasing liver failure in these individuals is mostly dependent on liver transplantation; however, therapy becomes more complex when other organs are involved.

The youngster was misdiagnosed as having biliary atresia at birth, which delayed corrective surgery and put him at risk for lifelong jaundice, stunted development, extreme itching, shortness of breath, and other distressing symptoms since infancy.

Following a comprehensive assessment at Care Hospitals, the medical professionals discovered that the kid had numerous organ damage from Alagille syndrome.

A combination strategy was required for therapy since the boy’s liver function was quickly deteriorating and pulmonary artery stenosis problems were present. For the procedure, the boy’s mother gave him a part of her liver.

“This case epitomizes the significance of multidisciplinary intervention and holistic compassionate care for children grappling with complex medical conditions,” said Dr. Mohammed Nayeem, liver transplant surgeon at Care Hospitals.
