A Delhi guy was ordered to help traffic cops at a signal after being booked for insulting a woman’s modesty

Following an amicable settlement between the parties, the Delhi High Court rejected a FIR filed against a man accused of outraging a woman’s modesty. As part of the agreement, the guy was ordered to assist the traffic police at a specified traffic light for 30 days.

After learning of the settlement, Justice Navin Chawla recently dismissed charges under Sections 354, 506, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code and warned that noncompliance would result in further legal action.

He said, “I find that no useful purpose shall be served in continuing with the proceedings of the present FIR as it would create further acrimony between the parties and will be an unnecessary burden on the state exchequer, keeping in mind that respondent no. 2 (the complainant woman) does not wish to pursue her complaint any further, as well as the settlement arrived at between the parties.”

Through a video conference, the complainant appeared in court and verified the settlement, attesting to its voluntary nature and lack of compulsion.

The accused must assist the traffic police at a traffic light for 30 days as part of the court’s ruling.

For a duration of 30 days, the petitioner, who may be deputed by the DCP, Traffic, East District, will assist the Traffic Police at a traffic signal. The court said, “He will report to the DCP Traffic for providing assistance at a traffic light designated to him.

It said that the individual had to report to the assigned traffic police authority and carry out his responsibilities as such.

Judge Chawla issued the following order: “The petitioner must submit a certificate with the DCP Traffic within two months of today, after the completion of the aforementioned 30-day period. The Registry will bring this issue before this Court for additional instructions if such a certificate is not submitted.
