A Delhi shopkeeper was briefly detained for serving “biryani” on a plate with a picture of Lord Ram

Following an allegation that he had served biryani on disposable plates allegedly bearing an image of Lord Ram in Jahangirpuri, northwest Delhi, Delhi Police temporarily arrested the restaurant owner, according to police on Tuesday.

According to a police investigator, throughout the course of the investigations, it was discovered that, out of the 1000 plates the shopkeeper had purchased from a foundry, only four of them had an image of Lord Ram.

The officer said, “He informed us that he was unaware of Lord Ram’s picture on the plates, which was also confirmed by the supplier and factory owner.”

We have questioned the supplier and the owner of the firm, who are located in outer-north Delhi.

“On the surface, it seems like producers have adhered glossy magazine pages to dishes. He speculated that it may have been done unintentionally.

The issue was brought to light on Saturday afternoon after Jahangirpuri called the Delhi Police to report that biryani was being sold on plates with an image of Lord Ram.

Social media users also shared video footage of two police officers conversing with the shopkeeper and a few other individuals outside the establishment. A few people were seen demonstrating outside the store when a police squad arrived at the scene. The police officer assured them that a thorough investigation would be conducted, which calmed them down.

The merchant said that the plates had also been taken and that he had been placed under preventative arrest under sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC before being released.

The officer said that more investigation is being done on the topic and that no case has been filed as of yet.
