A group of parents in Gurugram wants to take schools to court

The Gurugram Parents Association has called for strong action against schools in addition to the district authorities’ major crackdown on operators of over 400 school buses. The parents association has asked a review of the transport charge and the services offered by the schools in lieu of it in a letter sent to Nishant Yadav, the DC for Gurugram.

“The transportation fraud that large schools are doing has to be investigated by the government. The schools are burdening the parents by requiring their students to utilize school transportation if they do not use their own vehicle and by imposing arbitrary, outrageous fees. Although the transporters have been targeted by the government, what about the schools? Isn’t it their duty to ensure our kids’ safety when traveling? Go over the letter that the parents’ association issued.

Yadav said that a team led by the Divisional Commissioner had already been established to investigate the fee problem and that they were developing a safe ride to school policy to guarantee that the schools followed the Surakshit School Vahan Policy.

On April 11 in the Mahendragarh area, six kids lost their lives when a school bus driver—who was apparently intoxicated—rammed the bus into a tree and caused it to flip. 2,100 school buses in Gurugram had a three-day examination after that. In accordance with the Deputy Commissioner’s directives, 606 busses were seized. The officials have made it clear that no malfunctioning school bus will be permitted to run in the vicinity.

To guarantee the security of the kids riding in the school buses, a thorough inspection campaign is being carried out at five different places around Gurugram. 1,260 busses from 143 schools underwent inspection on Sunday. 406 of these buses received fines, and three were seized.
