According to Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary, “mangalsutra” was also sacrificed by my mother

Following his suspension by the Congress for ‘anti-party activities,’ Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary said in a statement today that his family was synonymous with party loyalty and that, like former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, his mother Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary had also sacrificed her’mangalsutra’ for the party, but that the party leadership had humiliated her instead of recognizing her sacrifice.

Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments by saying that her mother, Sonia Gandhi, had given up her “mangalsutra” for the nation.

MLA Chaudhary emphasized that while the country honored Sonia’s contributions, the Congress leadership has to look above the Nehru-Gandhi family and recognize the sacrifices made by other leaders. “While walking alongside Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, my father, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, gave his life.” Rather of expressing empathy for my mother’s loss, a senior party official dehumanized my mother by coldly writing off his sacrifice as an inevitable side effect of aging.

It cannot be the case that one sacrifice is honored while the others go unnoticed, since the Congress was founded on the blood of many leaders who gave their lives for the cause, he remarked. He went on to say that those who betrayed the party were given tickets, while others who had been devoted party members for decades received suspensions.

Disparities in the state’s ticket allocation were brought up by the Phillaur MLA, who accused the party of upholding unfair standards. He pointed out that six of the eight Lok Sabha seats that the state had declared went to those who had run against the Congress in the past, with the exception of MPs Gurjeet Singh Aujla and Dr. Amar Singh. He claimed that leaders who had beaten party candidates in the 2022 Vidhan Sabha election will be nominated on the next list.

Criticizing the way the party has treated Dalit leaders, he pointed out that although Charanjit Singh Channi is portrayed as the party’s Dalit face, only five of the 34 reserved seats were won under his leadership, and many prominent Dalit leaders were refused tickets in the most recent Vidhan Sabha election. Chaudhary listed names of Dalit leaders who were refused tickets, including Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Malkit Singh Dakha, Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Nathu Ram, Satkar Kaur, Ranjit Kaur Bhatti, and Tarsem Singh DC.

MLA Chaudhary further said that during Channi’s tenure as Chief Minister, he had colluded with private educational establishments and refrained from taking action regarding the SC scholarships fraud. He said that Channi called an emergency Cabinet meeting to brush the problem under the rug rather than confronting it and starting criminal procedures, undermining the confidence of those poor Dalit students who depended on the scholarships for their studies.
