Amritsar Central Jail confiscated thirty phones

There are still cases of cell phones and other forbidden items being discovered at the maximum security Amritsar Central Jail. In the most recent instance, during a surprise inspection yesterday, the central prison officials seized 30 cell phones, including 18 touch phones, 24 sim cards, a headset, and a charger.

Over 24 prisoners have been booked by Islamabad police after the seizure. Prabhdayal Singh, the jail’s assistant superintendent, filed a complaint. He said that the cops found the forbidden things during the unexpected search. With this, the total number of cell phones taken from the prison since January has now surpassed 350.

A prison guard was recently detained as well for smuggling illegal items into the facility.

To look into the sneaking of cellphones into prisons, the police have already established a special investigative squad under the direction of Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia.

In the meanwhile, 42 grams of opium were discovered in the possession of a prisoner named Lovejit Singh from the Tarn Taran hamlet of Dhun Dhaiwala, who is now staying in Guru Ki Wadali. After the hearing, he was taken to the prison, when the drug was found during a search by the jail officials. He was the subject of a separate case filed under sections c18, 61, and 85 of the Prison Act and the NDPS Act.
