Amritsar: Jhabal Road is once again the site of illegal store construction

The Municipal Town Planning wing intervened to halt the illegal building of stores near the Amritsar Central Jail on Jhabal Road, but the development has since restarted.

The building mob has resumed its activities while the employees of the municipal corporation (MC) are occupied with election-related tasks. Near the Nursing College on Jhabal Road, there were ten stores whose building had been halted by the Municipal Corporation under the previous Congress administration.

Information obtained further said that seven acres of government property were being used to establish an illegal colony. Sandeep Rishi, the Municipal Corporation Commissioner at the time, halted construction in this neighborhood.

However, the construction has started again in the last two weeks. According to the information, a powerful individual who has resumed work at the site sold the illegally occupied property.

These stores are being built on a war footing. Town Planning Department representatives of the municipal corporation said that they are aware of the issue and would take appropriate action against the offenders shortly.
