Anandpur Sahib: The front convener of assistant librarians gets started quickly

Jaswinder Kaur, the convener of the 1158 Assistant Professors and Librarians Front Punjab (Government College), began an indefinite fast here today while demanding that the 483 front members resume their work. Since August 31 of last year, the front members have been encamped outside the Gambhirpur village home of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.

The court’s quashing of the recruitment of 1,158 assistant professors and librarians last year led to the formation of the front. Jaswinder said that after many discussions, Bains had not addressed their issue and that the government was not making a strong legal argument in court.

Before receiving appointment letters as instructors from the state government, the demonstrators claimed that 483 of their colleagues worked at government schools, private colleges, or assisted learning institutions. Even though they were heavily reliant on the government, they have now been abandoned, without a job or even a dime.
