Andhra Pradesh: Man facing 14 days in judicial jail after hurling a stone at Chief Minister Jagan Reddy

A 19-year-old youth who threw a stone at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at a rally on Saturday has been placed in 14 days of judicial prison by a district court in Vijayawada.

On Thursday, the guy known as Vemula Satish Kumar, also known as Satti, was taken into custody and appeared in court. Then he was taken into detention.

The incident happened on April 13 at Vivekananda School in Ajith Singh Nagar when Jagan was doing a campaign stop for the approaching elections. There was a little cut over his left eyebrow.

In the remand report, Satish Kumar was listed as accused number 1 (A-1), while Vemula Durga Rao, an activist for a political party, was listed as accused number 2 (A-2).

Courtroom disputes:

Advocate Abdul Salim argued on Satish’s side, pointing out that he was underage and had no criminal history. “How could the police file a case of attempt to murder for the act of throwing a stone?” he further stated.

Additionally, he brought out in court that Satish’s Aadhar date did not match the police-provided date of birth, and that there were several inconsistencies in the date of birth provided by the police.

An attorney speaking for the state police said that Satish had hit the chief minister with a stone and that the charge of “attempt to murder” applied.

The court said that it will review the certificate issued by the municipal authorities and the date of birth after hearing arguments from both parties.

On May 13, elections are held in Andhra Pradesh.
