Anita Som Parkash, BJP candidate for Hoshiarpur, was formerly a minister’s shadow

Anita Som Parkash (64), who was declared the Hoshiarpur (reserved) candidate on Tuesday, is no stranger to politics, having worked as a shadow of Union Minister and current MP Som Parkash from the beginning of his political career.

Family members are aware that Anita had stronger social connections and was more outgoing than her spouse with coworkers and leaders. Anita used to handle the job, but Som Parkash used to go to the nation’s capital for meetings, sessions, and other matters.

Anita had always had ambitions to become involved in politics. Even after Som Parkash was elected as the MP and the seat became vacant in 2019, she was still keen to win the Phagwara Assembly ticket.

In 2012 and 2017, Som Parkash was elected as an MLA twice. She did not, however, get a vote in the 2019 by-election or in 2022.

However, she continued to support the Assembly section by working on a number of social programs. She operated “Janta ki rasoi” via her NGO, feeding 800-1,000 people a day for Rs 10 per person. Her goal in running Sehat Suvidha Sanstha was to provide the impoverished free medication. She has also gained popularity among the rural ladies in her community, having given out 5 lakh packages of sanitary pads in the previous two years. It was said that Anita was more outspoken and involved than her spouse.

Apart from Phagwara, Hoshiarpur, Dasuya, Mukerian, and Tanda, where she added a personal touch and the party was positioned well, Anita would, however, have difficulties in other Assembly constituencies. For an overall victory, the party will need to put in a lot of effort in the Bholath, Hargobindpur, Sham Churasi, Garhshankar, and Chabbewal segments.
