Arrivals of wheat in Ambala’s mandis are increasing

Wheat arrivals in the Ambala district’s grain markets have accelerated after staying slow. More than 67,052 MT of wheat had arrived to the district’s grain markets as of Tuesday evening, according to information obtained from the Food and Civil Supplies Department. Approximately sixty thousand MT of the total were acquired by the procurement agency.

A farmer from Mardon Sahib village named Gurnam Singh said, “This year’s yield is better than last year’s due to the weather remaining favorable.” The output was around 19 quintals per acre last year due to the abrupt rise in temperature; this year, it is about 22 quintals per acre.

“The grain is looking healthy and the average yield is expected to be 19 quintal per acre,” said Bhanokheri village farmer Gurvider Singh.

Although the farmers seem content with the harvest, the commission agents expressed worry about labor scarcity and labor-intensive lifting.

A commission agent named Vivek Chaudhary stated: “This year, labor scarcity has been a problem, but wheat arrivals have improved over the last several days and will continue to rise. In order to avoid having to wait at the grain market, we are asking the farmers to hold off on bringing their livestock.

The Haryana State Arhtiya Association’s patron, Duni Chand, said, “We have been facing issues other than just a labor shortage, like slow lifting of produce.”

“We are expecting higher arrivals this year and the yield is better than previous year,” said Dalel Singh, secretary of the Ambala City grain market. By the end of this month, the season will be over if the weather holds up.

Dr. Jasvinder Saini, Deputy Director of Agriculture, said that harvesting has reached around 25% of its completion and is expected to be finished in ten days. In comparison to the prior year, the farmers have reported a higher output.
