After four cases were reported, part of Kalol Town in Gujarat was declared cholera-affected

As a result of four cases being found in the previous few days—the second such outbreak in the town since 2021—parts of Kalol in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district have been classified cholera-affected, authorities announced on Friday.

Although police have reportedly discovered 11 additional suspicious cases in the area, the afflicted individuals are being treated and are stable.

According to them, Gandhinagar Collector Hitesh Koya on Thursday issued a notice under the Epidemic Diseases Act designating a 2-kilometer radius as cholera-affected for a duration of one month.

When Vibrio cholerae bacteria are present in food or water, it may result in the acute diarrheal illness known as cholera. If left untreated, it may lead to deadly dehydration and severe diarrhoea.

According to the official, the sickness is thought to have originated in Kalol as a result of tainted water, but he emphasized that the precise cause of the four instances would only become clear after an inquiry.

According to the notice, Jumma Masjid, Matvakuva, Bangladeshi Chhapra, Anjuman Wadi, and Gulistan Park are among the areas identified as cholera-affected.

“We have already sent out health teams to undertake an investigation to see whether there are any suspicious instances. We have also instructed all Kalol hospitals, both public and private, to keep a careful eye on patients and contact the police if they discover any suspicious activity, according to Koya.

In Kalol, cholera has spread twice in the last two years. Following reports of cases, several areas of the town were deemed cholera-affected in July 2021.

An inquiry revealed that the sickness had spread as a consequence of drinking water pollution brought on by leaks or ruptures in subterranean pipes.
