Authorities will inspect school buses for safety over the weekend

Over the weekend, school buses will be subject to a safety examination by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to guarantee the security of pupils across the district.

Based on available data, the district is home to around 550 officially recognized private schools and 1,400 busses.

According to sources, there may be more buses operating than there are registered, as some operators drive their vehicles without doing required safety inspections and checks. Despite the fact that some have just passed safety inspections, they said that about 180 school buses may still be in service without having completed the required safety inspections.

The government will have comprehensive information on cars that are suitable and inappropriate for usage in schools after the safety assessment.

According to information obtained from the RTA office, 421 buses were inspected between April 12 and April 19. Of them, 53 were challaned and six were impounded. Rs 1,91,500 has been levied as fines for breaking rules on buses. Additionally, the SDMs conducted inspections of the buses in their regions and issued tickets to those who did not adhere to the regulations.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Uttam Singh said that authorities have been instructed to make sure all safety regulations are followed in school buses and other vehicles used to transport pupils.

He said, “We’ve told the schools in Sector 32 to bring their buses on weekends.”
