BJP “charge sheet” alleges widespread corruption in the BJD government

Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Wednesday presented a “charge sheet” against the almost 25-year-old BJD administration in the State, accusing it of being engaged in corruption and irregularities ahead of elections to the Odisha Assembly and Lok Sabha.

In the 50-page “charge sheet,” senior BJP leader and Union minister Bhupender Yadav said that despite controlling the state for more than 20 years, the BJD was unable to build additional cold storage facilities, improve farmers’ income, or provide clean drinking water. “The attempt by the governing party to make the State safe for women has failed horribly. Another worrying trend, according to the Union minister, is the increase in the number of missing youngsters.

According to Yadav, the Naveen Patnaik administration has also fallen short of its pledged goal of providing irrigation facilities to 35% of the land in each State block. Additionally, he said that it was unable to establish cold storages in each of Odisha’s 314 blocks.

According to him, the country’s higher education system is in terrible shape since there are over 4,300 open professor positions. In a similar vein, he said that over 6,400 villages—the majority of which are located in tribal areas—still lack road access.

The BJP representative went on to say that many moved to Mumbai, Gujarat, and Chennai in quest of work as the BJD administration had failed to provide jobs to young people. According to him, more than 40,000 laborers have left Odisha in the last 12 months.

The BJP spokesman said that while the people of Odisha pay Rs 2.83 per unit for electricity generated in the state, the government are selling it to Tamil Nadu for Rs 2.53.

Senior BJD leader Swarup Das responded to the BJP’s charge sheet by stating that the State administration has implemented a number of policies aimed at empowering women, youth, and farmers. The government has helped ration card holders, given interest-free loans to women’s self-help groups (SHGs), awarded college scholarships, and given farmers subsidies. He said that people’s incomes had grown as a result of these activities.

The leader of the BJD predicted that the Odisha people will reject the charge sheet and respond appropriately to the BJP in the next elections.
