Body of unknown lady discovered in woodland

An unnamed girl’s nude corpse was discovered in a ditch in Jarashi village, which is part of the Rampur subdivision in the Narain panchayat of the Shimla district.

A Kinnauri shawl trapped on a tree beside the road caught the attention of a Nepalese man who was searching for “guchhi” on Wednesday in a forest next to Jarashi village. As he got closer, he saw a corpse 100 feet below. The police arrived at the scene and took the corpse into custody after he called the panchayat office-bearers to report the dead. Today, a Shimla forensic team paid a visit to the location.

Near the corpse was a chain that was allegedly the woman’s. She had on a wrist watch, earrings, and a silver bracelet. The lady was dressed in a “dhaatu,” a scarf that is worn by ladies in the district of Shimla’s higher reaches.

The woman’s identification is being investigated by the police. According to Avinash Kayasth, deputy president of Naren Panchayat, the lady had a hefty build and seemed to be in her 30s. He claimed that local sources were being consulted for information on missing people.

According to Rampur DSP Naresh Sharma, the preliminary investigation will reveal the reason of death.
