CBI team visits Sandeshkhali row to look into claims of crimes against women and land grabbing

According to an official, a 10-person CBI team traveled to Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Saturday to look into claims of land grabbing and crimes against women.

According to him, a member of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) team went to the victims’ homes in the Sundarikhali neighborhood of Sandeshkhali and interacted with each one of them one-on-one while recording their complaints.

A different member of the team went to the Sandeshkhali Police Station and discussed the investigation with the local police officers.

“We are at Sandeshkhali to discuss crimes against women and land-grabbing with the locals. We are taking note of their claims,” the representative said to PTI.

Last week, the Calcutta High Court mandated a CBI inquiry into claims of land grabbing and crimes against women in Sandeshkhali, the scene of rallies over these concerns.

The CBI was ordered by the court to look into the claims and provide it with a thorough report.

When Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers went to Sandeshkhali on January 5 to search the home of now-suspended Trinamool Congress leader Shajahan Sheikh in relation to an alleged ration distribution fraud case, they were ambushed by a crowd.
