Congress wants to use the anti-defection statute to disqualify three Independent MLAs

The Speaker has received a petition from the Congress asking for the disqualification of three Independent MLAs who left the Assembly on March 22 and then joined the BJP in the Vidhan Sabha.

Since they joined the BJP before their resignation was accepted, we have filed a petition to have them removed from the Assembly. They have broken the anti-defection statute by doing this, according to Revenue Minister Jagat Singh, who was there today.

Ashish Sharma from Hamirpur, KL Thakur from Nalagarh, and Hoshiyar Singh from Dehra, the three Independent MLAs, resigned from their positions on March 22 and joined the BJP the next day. Since then, they have insisted that their resignations be recognized right away, but the Speaker is looking into whether or not they left of their own will or as a result of coercion, as the Congress lawmakers claimed in their appeal to the Speaker.

The MLAs petitioned the court to order the Speaker to accept their resignation, claiming that the Speaker was refusing to accept it. The three MLAs have insisted on having their resignations accepted promptly so that on June 1st, in addition to the four Lok Sabha seats and the six Assembly bypolls, their constituency byelections may take place.

In addition, Harish Janartha, the MLA for Shimla (Urban), said that he had filed a plea with the High Court, asking to be heard before the MLAs’ appeal was decided. Janartha said, “I want to bring all the details of their resignation and the pressure they faced before the court.”

Negi responded to the BJP’s criticism of the Congress manifesto in the meanwhile. The Congress manifesto has disheartened the BJP. By claiming that the Congress would seize control of the land and the people, the BJP is deceiving the public. He said, “The Congress has promised to provide land from government land to the landless.”
