Congress would provide women in central government posts a 50% reservation: Alka Lamba

Alka Lamba, the president of the All India Mahila Congress, said today that if the Congress is elected to power at the federal level, it would provide women with a 50% quota in positions held by the federal government.

Lamba was in the city for Nandita Hooda, the president of the Chandigarh Pradesh Mahila Congress, to take office.

Although the Congress platform offers provisions for all segments of the nation, according to Lamba, “Naari Nyay” (justice for women) provides particular treatment for women.

In addition to the 50% quota of women in government employment, she declared that every impoverished family in the nation will get Rs 1 lakh in their bank account annually.

The head of the Mahila Congress said that women and the nation had suffered over the previous ten years of Modi’s administration. She made reference to a protest by female Olympians and said that under BJP leadership, those guilty of rape were shielded and given special treatment.

Manish Tewari, a former federal minister and Chandigarh candidate for the INDIA bloc, thanked Mahila Congress members and leaders for their assistance with his campaign.

He said that the late Rajiv Gandhi was the one who first instituted the policy of granting women seats in municipal governments, which eventually led to the introduction of such seats in legislative bodies.
