ED summonses: May 15th is the day of CM’s plea

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition contesting the summonses he received from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the money laundering case related to excise policies was postponed by the Delhi High Court on Monday for the following month.

The AAP national convener was detained by the ED on March 21. A panel of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain gave him time to submit a rebuttal to the ED’s reply, and they scheduled a hearing for May 15.

The Supreme Court heard a challenge to Kejriwal’s arrest after the High Court rejected a second appeal challenging the arrest, and ED noted that this rendered the petition null and void.

The panel then questioned “what is left in the matter,” but they allowed Kejriwal’s attorney’s plea for more time to submit a rebuttal. Following the issuance of the ninth summons by the ED for his appearance before it on March 21, Kejriwal had sought the high court. Later that evening, he was taken into custody by the ED and is now being held in judicial custody at Tihar Jail.

According to the ED, other accused had contact with Kejriwal while he was developing the now-cancelled excise policy that gave them disproportionate advantages and paid bribes to the AAP.
