Election authorities confiscate Rs 64 lakhs held in Puducherry under “suspicious circumstances.”

One day before the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission seized Rs 64 lakh that had been held under dubious conditions.

In a statement, Returning Officer A Kulothungan said that Assistant Election Officers searched extensively around the Puducherry region from April 16, 2024, to April 17, 2024, in response to a complaint that was received by the District Control Room.

Officials discovered a suspicious sum of Rs 64 lakh in a single residence during their searches. Assistant Returning Officer Yashwanthiah, who oversees the three assembly seats of Thattanchavady, Indira Nagar, and Kadirgaman, acted quickly to oversee the seizure of the specified sum.

Meanwhile, four people who were reportedly engaged in giving money to voters were apprehended during a series of raids that were carried out on the same day.

According to the RO, they are the subject of ongoing investigations and have been the subject of legal procedures.
