Experts say a balanced diet and lifestyle are essential to preventing liver disease

Health experts emphasized early identification and treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) on Sunday in order to avoid liver cirrhosis, as NAFLD is becoming a serious problem in the nation.

Dr. Sachidananda Mohanty, head of medical education and training at Utkal Hospital, said at a World Liver Day event that practically all liver cirrhosis deaths may be prevented with early diagnosis and lifestyle modifications. These days, obesity is a primary cause of liver damage, which often results in fatty liver disease. Liver disease is now a lifestyle illness. The key to optimal liver health, he said, is to maintain an active lifestyle and a healthy weight.

The first cadaveric liver transplant was performed at Utkal Hospital, which was commended by the DMET. The receiver, 41 years old, is now recovering after receiving the liver from a 50-year-old lady who was brain dead. Unhealthy diets might exacerbate fatty liver disease, according to Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, joint head of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO). Traditional meals with a variety of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains should be the main emphasis for people. He said that leading a healthy lifestyle is the key to curing liver illness.

Siba Mohanty, resident editor of The New Indian Express, said that adopting a better diet and lifestyle may prevent liver disease from starting in the first place and improve one’s quality of life.

According to Dr. Satyaprakash Ray Choudhury, a senior specialist in hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal surgery, fatty liver disease is a prevalent disorder that arises from the accumulation of excess fat in the liver. He gave advice such as, “We should be alert, get regular liver check-ups, follow a healthy diet, and do regular exercise.”

Liver Day serves as a reminder for individuals to stop and consider their liver health, according to senior gastrointestinal surgeon Dr. Salil Kumar Parida. This time, a walk and run was planned. The top three competitors received prizes. Pragyan Ranjan Gharai, the managing director, was also present.
