Farmers from Tamil Nadu March at Jantar Mantar, Calling for Action on Crop Prices and River Linking

About 200 Tamil Nadu farmers protested against the national government on Tuesday at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, highlighting their concerns about agricultural pricing and the connecting of rivers. The demonstrators brought attention to the terrible conditions faced by agricultural laborers by bringing what they believed to be the skulls and bones of farmers who had committed suicide.

The farmers expressed dissatisfaction about crop price stagnation, citing unmet pledges from the federal government that promised to double agricultural revenue. The National South Indian River Interlinking Farmers Association head, Ayyakannu, cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election-year promise to increase agricultural profitability and interlink rivers.

The demonstrators boldly said that if their demands were not met, they would run against Prime Minister Modi in the Varanasi Lok Sabha elections. They emphasized that they were impartial and made it clear that their goal was to support the PM, not to oppose him or to support any particular political party.

The farmers recalled earlier difficulties in organizing demonstrations, claiming that there was opposition from the government at first until they were granted permission by the court to use their democratic right to dissent. The farmers emphasized their continued fight for equitable treatment and economic fairness while reiterating their resolve to have their voices heard in spite of barriers.

Tamil Nadu farmers have been protesting for a long time, and their rally at Jantar Mantar was just one more chapter in their continuous story. It demonstrated their persistent determination to fight for their rights in the agricultural sector.
