Former Deputy CM of UP Dinesh Sharma is the BJP’s choice for the Rajya Sabha seat

Dinesh Sharma, a former deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has been named the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate in the state for the 2018 Rajya Sabha by-elections.

According to a press statement from National General Secretary Arun Singh, Sharma is the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha by-elections to be conducted in Uttar Pradesh. “The Central Election Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party has given its approval on one name,” the announcement added.

The seat’s tenure will expire in November 2026. The by-election is set for September 15 even though the deadline for nominations is September 5.

The BJP declared Ananta Maharaj (from West Bengal) and Babubhai Jesangbhai Desai (both from Gujarat) as candidates for the upcoming election to the Rajya Sabha earlier in July.
