Former Top Cops in Valley: Abrogation of Article 370 Caused a Decline in Terrorist Activities in J&K

According to former senior police officers who worked in the area and were instrumental in the process, the repeal of Article 370 has resulted in a decrease in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), among other beneficial improvements. According to experts, the elections will result in more favorable changes in the Union Territory. According to the police, kids are speaking out more often these days and appreciation of various Indian traditions is no longer frowned upon.

Then, on August 5, 2019, President Ram Nath Kovind proclaimed that the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted Jammu and Kashmir a unique status, were repealed. As a result, Jammu and Kashmir’s independent constitution ceased to be in effect, and the Central government gained the authority to redraft the state’s original constitution. The former state was then renamed a Union Territory (UT). Jammu & Kashmir’s governor was elevated to lieutenant governor.

The term “NEUTRALIZED TERROR ECOSYSTEM”

An AP reporter spoke Maheshwari was the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Special Secretary (Internal Security) at the time the government repealed Article 370. Later, in January 2020, he was named the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) Director-General. Authorities have made significant progress in neutralizing the terrorist ecosystem, as well as in confining the finance for terrorism and its local networking, in addition to regulating cross-border incursions. As a current observer, I can affirm that the government’s numerous programs have not only lessened the many manifestations of radicalism but also established a community space for social and cultural integration.

He said that there have been significant changes in municipal government. The secret to success is democratic decentralization, which includes empowering marginalized groups at the local level. Despite the historical veil, we have made significant progress, and this process is ongoing. People now feel safer, which has a multiplier impact on tourism, he said.

Aiming for 30,000 new young leaders

Another officer who closely observed the terror in Kashmir and oversaw the top law enforcement position in J&K, SP Vaid, claimed that after the abrogation, the government had choked terror by having the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA), and J&K Police investigate cases against terrorists, sympathizers, and separatists, as well as other central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), etc. According to the officer, “identifying terror sympathizers in the government and academia, removing them from publicly funded government service, and stifling terror funding channels helped.”

In addition, Vaid said, “Socially, those who were previously reluctant to publicly express their support for democracy and Bharat are now doing so. Youth are more vociferous. Young girls and boys can now embrace various Indian traditions, according to the officer who spent a lot of time in J&K.

According to Vaid, the local government and Panchayat Raj system directly received funding from Delhi and produced 30,000 new young leaders. He said, “Most of the central legislation and programmes are in existence in J&K, especially after imposing direct central authority. There is renewed vigor in their three-tier Panchayat leadership and substantial participation. However, early assembly elections will result in complete democracy and widespread participation. Bureaucratic rule has its drawbacks, according to the former top officer.
