Former Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma is selected by the BJP to run for the Rajya Sabha

Dinesh Sharma, a former deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has been named by the BJP as their candidate for the state’s byelection to the Rajya Sabha.

In a statement released by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh on Sunday, it was said that “the Central Election Committee of the BJP has given its approval on the name of Dr Dinesh Sharma for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha by-election to be held in Uttar Pradesh.”

The death of prominent BJP leader Hardwar Dubey made the election necessary.

In Delhi, Dubey died suddenly on June 26.

The by-election polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 15, and voting will also be counted on that day.

Dinesh Sharma served as one of the two deputy chief ministers during Yogi Adityanath’s first tenure as governor of Uttar Pradesh, which ran from 2017 to 22.
