Goa: Massive explosion hits Ansolem village, causing damage to many homes and the detention of one

Late on Monday night, a massive explosion took place at a private farmhouse in Ansolem hamlet, North Goa. No casualties were recorded, but the bomb caused fractures in numerous buildings close to the farmhouse, according to the police. One individual was held by Valpoi Police in relation to the explosion.

“The explosion was reported in a private farmhouse located in Ansolem village of Bhironda village panchayat around 10 pm,” the police officer said. A godown that held explosives was totally destroyed in the explosion.

According to the police, they are looking into how such a large amount of explosive was obtained. They said that preliminary findings suggest the use of gelatin explosives in nearby stone crushing facilities.

“One individual whose identity is not yet known is being questioned,” a policeman said.

The police promised to carry out a comprehensive investigation on Tuesday. They claimed that a forensic team will be contacted for the inquiry and that the whole area has been blocked off.

An FIR would be lodged against the perpetrators of the bomb, according to a post made by local MLA Deviya Rane on ‘X’.

“This is to inform the people that we have received reports of a blast at Ansolem in Bhironda Panchayat; no casualties were reported at the site,” Rane said.

“A detailed investigation is in progress, and an explosives and substances Act formal complaint will be lodged. After the inquiry is finished, strict measures will be implemented,” she said.
