‘Gruha Lakshmi’ plan will be implemented nationwide based on the model developed in Karnataka: Mr. Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, said on Wednesday that women are the backbone of India and that their empowerment is essential for the development of the nation.

He said that the party will spread the Gruha Lakshmi model from Karnataka across the nation.

His comments follow the Wednesday launch of the direct benefit transfer of Rs 2,000 into the bank accounts of women in the southern state under the “Gruha Lakshmi” scheme, which he co-launched with party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and senior party leaders Randeep Saingh Surjewala and KC Venugopal.

The former Congress leader said, “The strength of a building lies in its foundation,” in a tweet written in Hindi after the performance. The empowerment of women is the only thing that will make India’s society robust. Karnataka has received four out of five promises that are tailored specifically for women.

“Gruha Lakshami Yojana is India’s largest money transfer program for women, providing Rs 2000 per month to bank accounts. And, as Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha representative for Kerala’s Wayanad parliamentary district, said, “we are now going to replicate this Karnataka model—a women-centric system—all throughout India.

“As we complete 100 days in the Karnataka government, it gives us immense satisfaction to launch Gruha Lakshmi guarantee where Rs 2,000 per month shall be directly transferred to the accounts of more than one crore women,” Kharge wrote on X.

“This will provide them with relief from the unheard-of price increase enacted by the BJP and the Modi administration. BJP used every tactic at its disposal to contest and delay the fulfillment of our assurances. The Karnataka people’s will was respected. Today, they are helping millions of people. The foundation of development is financial empowerment for women, and we will continue to prioritize this issue for the sake of our people’s future, according to Kharge, who also serves as the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

Congress made five promises in the state of Karnataka in the run-up to the assembly elections there.

Following its victory in the assembly elections held in December of the previous year, the Congress also introduced a similar direct benefit transfer program for women in Himachal Pradesh.
