Gujarat Congress in ruins as a number of its leaders join the BJP
On Wednesday, over a thousand representatives and workers from the Opposition Congress and other political parties formally joined the BJP, which is now in power in Gujarat. At a ceremony conducted at the state headquarters of the governing party in Gandhinagar, they were cordially welcomed into the partyfold.
A number of prominent individuals joined the BJP after defecting from the Congress, including former Mahudha MLA Indrajitsinh Thakor, Dr. Vipul Patel, the president of the Sabarkantha Congress, Sudhirbhai Patel, the president of the Youth Congress and Himmat Nagar Marketing Yard, and Vinod Chaudhary, the former president of the Kheralu Taluka Congress.
“We assure you that we will move forward together, strengthening Gujarat and, by extension, strengthening the country,” BJP state president CR Patil said in welcoming these major figures.
With two Congress MLAs quitting the party in the last two months before the Lok Sabha election, the state Congress is in worse shape.
