Haryana floor test: Anil Vij declares he would stick with the BJP even if things change

Former Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that the “situation keeps on changing” and he “will continue to work for the BJP” as newly appointed Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini prepares to take a floor test at a special session of the assembly today.

Before the floor test, he remarked in an interview with ANI, “Situations change all the time, but I have always worked for the BJP. I’ll continue to do it, even more than I have before.”

In the midst of political unrest, today’s special session of the Haryana Assembly is scheduled to serve as a floor test for newly elected Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to demonstrate his majority.

The governor of Haryana, Bandaru Dattatreya, met with Lok Sabha member Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday to officially assert his claim to form the state’s administration and succeed veteran BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar.

At Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh, he was sworn in as the chief minister of Haryana.

As ministers in the Haryana cabinet, four BJP leaders—Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Jai Parkash Dalal, Moolchand Sharma, and Banwari Lal—took an oath of office.

Governor Bandaru Dattatreya also delivered an oath to one independent MLA, Ranjit Singh. Manohar Lal Khattar, the former chief minister of Haryana, was also there.

The newly elected chief minister said that the Speaker has been encouraged to hold the floor test on Wednesday and that the 48 MLAs in the state support the BJP-led administration.

“I would want to express my gratitude to Union HM Amit Shah, PM Modi, party president JP Nadda, and other prominent party figures for entrusting me with this role. We’ll put forth effort to see the state through growth. We have requested that the Speaker hold the floor test in the Vidhan Sabha tomorrow at about 11:00 a.m. 48 MLAs have supported us, and we have let the governor know about it,” CM Saini said.

Following the disintegration of the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and the resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the former CM hinted that the alliance may have broken down due to demands made by JJP leaders regarding seat distribution in the Lok Sabha elections.

According to Manohar Lal Khattar, “The alliance may have broken up as a result of the JJP leaders’ demand regarding the distribution of seats in the Lok Sabha elections.” The BJP won 10 seats in the state. The central leadership must have had a conversation with the JJP leaders. Nothing is official, but the JJP has taken choices in accordance with their determination to run for the Lok Sabha seats independently.”

Nayab Saini, a prominent member of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) group, was named the state chief of the BJP in October of last year. He represents Kurukshetra in the Lok Sabha. Additionally, he is close to Khattar, whose second (consecutive) term is ending this year.

Earlier on Tuesday, hours after the BJP’s coalition with the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) fell down, Chief Minister Khattar resigned from office. In the Haryana Assembly, the JJP, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, had ten MLAs. Governor of Haryana Bandaru Dattatreya received a letter of resignation from Manohar Lal Khattar.

The BJP won all ten parliamentary seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the JJP, which ran in coalition with the AAP, was unable to muster any opposition in seven of the seats it ran for.
