Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, accuses the Congress of having made a deal in secret to sell the northeast

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, has accused Congressman Rahul Gandhi of excluding the northeastern area of India from a map the party posted on social media.

Gaurav Gogoi, an MP for the grand old party in the state, quickly responded by pressing the CM on the subject of property transactions involving businesses connected to his family, alleging that Sarma is “avoiding” replying, according to PTI.

Gogoi said he feared his account on the microblogging site was “restricted” despite there being no official word from the social media giant. Gogoi and Sarma have been engaged in a verbal battle on X since Wednesday over the topic of the CM’s wife’s company allegedly receiving a credit subsidy of Rs 10 crore from the central government under a scheme.

Sarma posted a snapshot of an animated video from the Congress’ official X account that included images of cartoon characters that resembled Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi beside a map that obscured the Northeast, the statement said.

Sarma said on X, previously Twitter, “Seems the Congress party has secretly struck a deal to sell the entire land of Northeast to some neighboring country.”

The image, which is labeled with an imagined discussion between Modi and Gandhi and is based on the well-known “Mere pass maa hai” exchange from the 1975 Bollywood film “Deewar,” has a cartoon of Gandhi in the center.

In the caption, Modi claims to have the ED, police, government, money, and friends. He then asks Gandhi what he has, to which the latter responds that the whole country is behind him.

Sarma continued, “Is this the’missing’ northeastern region? Or has Sharjeel Imam been admitted to the party? It made mention.

Imam, a student activist, was detained in a case under the strict Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly conspiring to start the riots that broke out in the nation’s capital in 2020 during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests. He has been detained in connection with the case since January 28, 2020.

Gogoi responded by asking Sarma about land transactions he and his family had made, and he also posted on X that it was hilarious to hear the chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, discuss such matters. In the context of the businesses connected to his family, it is precisely the question he is avoiding answering in Assam, it was noted.

He also requested data about “how much agricultural land has been purchased by these companies,” according to the report.

If there is any proof that they got the subsidy, the CM has already denied the allegations and said that he is prepared to bear any penalty, including retirement from public life, it was noted. In the meanwhile, his wife has vowed to sue Gogoi for defamation in the amount of Rs 10 crore.

An Assamese web portal recently published a report alleging that a sizable parcel of agricultural land measuring over 50 bighas at Darigaji village in Nagaon was reclassified as industrial land within a month after it was bought by his family members, sparking yet another controversy involving the CM’s family.

Gogoi has raised concern that his X account has been “restricted” in the meanwhile, it was added.

“I’ve had a lot of complaints. I’ve received screenshots from people who were unable to enter their accounts. According to Gogoi, who was reported by PTI, “I have ordered my staff to at least inform the public that I believe Twitter has limited my account.

He said that X would be contacted about the situation by the Congress’ social media unit, it claimed.

“As of right now, Twitter hasn’t let me know about any such action on their end. I anticipate a clarification,” the Congress leader stated, according to the report.
