‘Honey-trapped’ by a Pakistani woman agent, a BSF employee was detained in Gujarat

Officials said on Saturday that a contract worker for the Border Security Force (BSF) in Bhuj, Gujarat, had been detained for allegedly providing vital information with a female Pakistani intelligence operative.They said that Nilesh Balia, the accused, had completed his 12th grade education and had spent the previous five years as a peon at the Central Public Works Department’s electrical department office at the BSF headquarters in Bhuj.

According to a senior official, the state Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), which made the arrest on Friday, will take him before a judge and ask for his detention.Sometime in January 2023, Balia made contact with the Pakistani agent and gave her access to several private documents about the electrification of BSF buildings that were being built and those that were already standing, as well as some documents pertaining to civil departments, according to Sunil Joshi, Superintendent of Police, ATS.

Through WhatsApp, the lady got in touch with the accuser. According to Joshi, she ‘honey-trapped’ him and offered him money in exchange for his sharing private information.The representative introduced herself as “Aditi Tiwari” and said that she was employed for a private company. She informed Balia that she required the knowledge for her work and that she would pay him for it. The SP said that throughout the “love affair,” the accused, who represented himself to the lady as a computer operator, gave her access to private data while taking payment for it.

He reportedly received a total payment of Rs 28,800 through UPI transactions. The ATS will examine his bank and phone records and look into his other contacts, the official added.The ATS kept an eye on him and examined his phone and bank records after receiving a tip about his behavior before summoning him in for interrogation.

In addition to the Official Secrets Act, Balia was charged with violating sections 121-A of the Indian Penal Code (conspiracy to conduct offenses punishable by section 121 relating to waging war against the Government of India), 123 (concealing with purpose to aid design to wage war), and 120-B of the Criminal Conspiracy.
