Hyderabad: A techie perishes after falling into an exposed subterranean sump at a hostel; footage of the incident

An unintentional fall into an exposed subterranean water sump inside a private dormitory in Hyderabad’s Raidurg neighborhood claimed the life of a twenty-five-year-old techie.

According to the Times of India, which cited Raidurgam police, Shaik Akmal Sufuyan, who passed away, was a resident of Shanmukh Men’s PG (paying guest) hostel in Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli.

On Sunday morning, Sufuyan had gone outside to take care of some chores. The event happened when he opened the gate upon his return to the hostel without realizing the sump was left open.

He died after falling into the sump not long after accessing the property. The CCTV system at the hostel captured the whole episode.

According to a police officer, “K Madhusudhan Reddy, the hostel owner, was standing only a few feet away with his child and wife, and he failed to notice Shaik because he was facing the other side.”

The software worker, who lives in the Khammam area and works for a private company, moved into the hostel two months ago.

There was a loud thump, and the owner apparently ran to the sump. He didn’t realize at first what had occurred, but when he saw several bananas on the floor, he started to become suspicious.

According to Raiduram sub-inspector V Srinivas, Madhusudhan discovered that Sufuyan had fallen onto the CCTV film when he went to examine it right away.

The 25-year-old had passed away by the time he was removed from the sump and brought to a hospital.

A criminal complaint under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 304 A (negligence causing death) has been filed against the hostel.
