IIIT-Basara student hangs himself in the dorm due of poor attendance

An another suicide occurred at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) Basara on Tuesday morning when B Aravind, an 18-year-old student, hung himself in his dorm room.

Aravind’s companions reported that they saw him hanging to the university officials, who subsequently got in touch with the assistance police. He was taken to a nearby hospital by force, where the authorities pronounced him dead. Later, he was sent to the Nirmal Hospital for a postmortem analysis.

After finishing his SSC, Aravind, who hails from the hamlet of Bandarupalli in Thoguttu mandal of Siddipet district, joined RGUKT. According to police reports during the inquiry, Aravind took this drastic measure because he thought his parents would be notified by the college administration since final examinations are set to start on April 18. Aravind had poor attendance.

Up to 100 pupils, it is said, have poor attendance, which worries parents and the administration.

District Collector Ashish Sangwan and Superintendent of Police Jhanaki Sharmila met with university officials on campus after the event, and they requested a thorough report on what happened. They also requested that the relevant authorities take action to stop such incidents from happening again.

The DC gave the authorities instructions to organize frequent interactions with the students by forming teams of 60 to 65 pupils and one faculty member each.

They were also requested to plan sporting activities, put up CCTV cameras in hostels and hallways, and make sure that food is provided at a high standard and according to the menu.
