The center declares September 17 to be “Hyderabad Liberation Day.”

The Center said on Tuesday that September 17 would be observed as ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’ each year.

The Union Home Ministry stated in a statement that Hyderabad was ruled by the Nizams and did not get freedom until 13 months after India gained its independence on August 15, 1947.

On September 17, 1948, the area was freed from Nizam’s authority as a result of “Operation Polo,” a police operation.

“However, the people in the area have demanded that September 17 be recognized as Hyderabad Liberation Day.

“Now, in order to remember the martyrs who liberated Hyderabad and to infuse the flame of patriotism in the minds of youth, the Government of India has decided to celebrate the 17th day of September every year as ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’,” the announcement said.

The Razakars opposed Hyderabad’s union with the Union of India and demanded that it either join Pakistan or turn into a Muslim dominion when India attained independence.

To become a part of the Union of India, the people in the area bravely battled against the Razakars’ crimes.

In Hyderabad, the private militia known as the Razakars had both perpetrated atrocities and supported the Nizam regime.

The Nizami state of Hyderabad was seized by the Union of India on September 17, 1948, after military action that was started by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Home Minister at the time.

For the last several years, the Narendra Modi administration has observed “Hyderabad Liberation Day” on September 17.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, had already attended the function.
