Important Meeting On Implementation Of The Uniform Civil Code Begins In The Parliamentary Committee

The critical subject of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was the focus of the first session of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Law and Justice on Monday. The committee’s discussion will centre on the creation of a uniform legal system that covers and unifies all national residents.

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, emphasised the need of enacting legislation that unites people from all walks of life. He emphasised the Supreme Court’s backing for various UCC-related rulings, further suggesting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win support for this endeavour across party lines, according to ANI.

In the interview, Minister Goyal said, “A law should be formed by unifying and incorporating all of the people of the nation, and the Supreme Court has also approved several of its rulings. Given the BJP’s dominance in the Rajya Sabha, he expressed confidence in getting support from all parties.

“We have a resounding majority in the Rajya Sabha, and I believe that many leaders from other parties want the unification of the nation. On the Uniform Civil Code, I believe that many parties will support the BJP. The minister said, “We will have support from all parties for this.

Kapil Sibal, a member of the Rajya Sabha, requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify the idea for a Uniform Civil Code earlier on Saturday. PM Modi’s support for the UCC has once again raised attention to the issue. He emphasised that the Uniform Civil Code is a fundamental component of the Constitution and that the nation cannot operate with two sets of rules.

“People are being provoked right now in the name of UCC. On how many (laws) can a nation function? Equal rights are also mentioned in the Constitution. The Supreme Court has also requested the adoption of UCC. The importance of the Uniform Civil Code was emphasised by PM Modi, who also criticised the opposition for engaging in vote-bank politics.

The UCC public notice had an impressive response of around 8.5 lakh comments last week, which is a noteworthy development and shows the people’s interest and participation in the subject.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the UCC should be put into effect as quickly as feasible in more than a dozen instances. This has been stated repeatedly by the court, according to Sushil Modi. “I don’t understand why the same age for marriage can’t be fixed for everyone,” he said. The UCC is said to have an impact on religious practises and ceremonies. Why can’t civil law be the same for everyone in the nation if criminal law is?

The Congress and the wider group of Opposition parties have expressed concern over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s aggressive campaign for a Uniform Civil Code throughout the nation because they see it as a strategy to shore up the Hindu vote bank in advance of the Lok Sabha elections next year, in which PM Modi will run for a third term.
