In Amritsar, Tarn Taran, mature wheat crop is flattened by rain, hailstorms, and severe winds

Today, mature wheat crops that were ready for harvesting were destroyed in a few isolated districts of the district by a brief period of rain combined with high winds and a hailstorm. Up to 20% of the crop, according to the farmers, has been flattened in some places.

Harvesting began on Baisakhi (April 14), since the wheat crop is almost ready. However, the unpredictable weather caused the harvesting to be delayed. Today, hailstorms and strong winds harmed the crops on the city’s outskirts. The mature crop is not helped by the winds since they flatten the plants, according to Khankot farmer Gurpeet Singh.

Another farmer from Pandoori village, Satnam Singh, stated: “We are afraid of the rain and cloudy weather.” Grain with moisture content would not be purchased from the market. The harvesting process is being delayed by unfavorable weather, which might reduce crop productivity.

The commuters had inconveniences due to potholes and low-lying places on city roadways caused by the rain. The locals are requesting that the government do patchwork to cover the gaps. Water buildup in potholes was evident on almost every major route in the city, necessitating repair work. One Majitha Road homeowner, Surinder Kumar, suggested that the MC prioritize patch work.

The wheat harvest in Tarn Taran was harmed by hail and torrential rain. The district’s Tarn Taran, Patti, Khadoor Sahib, and Khemkaran regions had intense afternoon rain. Due to the majority of the wheat harvest in Tarn Taran, Chabal, Sarai Amanat Khan, Khadoor Sahib, and other locations being left out in the open, the wheat crop in grain markets suffered damage.

Farmers from Rattoke villages, Sukhwinder Singh and Dilbag Singh, both from Lalu Ghuman, said that a hailstorm severely damaged the mature wheat harvest.

Chief Agriculture Officer Harpal Singh said that because the wheat fields were dry, there was no crop or yield loss.
