In Tamil Nadu, a flying squad seizes Rs 81K from a BJP man’s vehicle

On Wednesday night, officers from the Pollachi constituency’s flying squad apprehended Rs 81,000 from a BJP official. The cadre reportedly intended to give it to voters, according to sources. They also took a voter list from him.

Flying squad team III, led by deputy commercial tax officer Pushpadevi, reportedly increased vehicle checks on Wednesday night after receiving information regarding suspected money distribution to voters at a tea shop in Pooluvapatti hamlet, close to Alandurai. They stopped a sports utility vehicle at around 11 p.m. and took Rs 81,000 from BJP Alandurai mandal president R Jothimani, 37. There is now more research being done.

On Thursday, a group of attorneys from the DMK advocates wing in Coimbatore filed a complaint with the returning officer, alleging that BJP members were giving voters cash using e-wallets and UPI.

The advocate wing of the DMK in the Coimbatore North district, led by Badri, also known as K Palanisamy, brought a petition to the collectorate’s returning officer. He said that BJP candidate K Annamalai’s supporters were still calling voters and carrying out their campaign.

Outsiders are required under ECI regulations to vacate the constituency by Wednesday night. However, a number of non-district residents are lodging at the BJP’s election headquarters on Avinashi Road in order to campaign and use phones to transfer money,” he said, providing a list of six accused participants.

In the meanwhile, BJP district president J Ramesh Kumar petitioned the RO, claiming that despite the DMK and AIADMK cadres having filed a complaint and provided picture proof of their purported cash distribution to voters, authorities had not taken any action against them.
