Indelible ink vials totaling 1.52 lakh will be utilized for the MP election

Indore: Approximately 1.52 lakh vials of permanent ink are anticipated to be used to create the traditional imprint on the left index finger of the 5.65 crore Madhya Pradesh voters who are anticipated to cast ballots in the Lok Sabha elections.

Each vial holds 10 milliliters, which is sufficient to mark around 700 voters.

For the Lok Sabha elections, we have bought around 1.52 lakh bottles of indelible ink.

Madhya Pradesh has around 2,000 vials on hand, according to state Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan, who spoke with TOI. According to him, 1,42,500 vials were given out for the state assembly elections in 2023.

Mysore Paints & Varnish Ltd., a firm situated in Mysore, is the only producer of indelible ink in India. The company has been producing indelible ink since 1962. According to the official website, Mysore Lac & Paint Works Ltd. was the previous name of the firm, which was founded in 1937 by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, the Maharaja of the Mysore region. The name was changed in 1989.

Voters are asked to mark their left index finger with the traditional dark purple permanent ink, which takes several days to fade, in order to prevent fraudulent voting. Several other nations also use the ink during elections.

The second round of voting in Madhya Pradesh will take place in Tikamgarh, Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa, and Hoshangabad on April 26. May 7 and May 13 are the dates for the state’s third and fourth voting phases.
