Off the coast of Kannamaly, a fishing boat sinks; five crew are saved

Santa Maria, a mechanized fishing vessel off the coast of Kannamaly, Kochi, sank in the sea on Friday afternoon as a result of water intrusion and an engine problem.

The fishermen were saved when a patrol boat from the fisheries department’s maritime enforcement division hurried to the scene.

“Five fishermen were in the boat; they were taken to Kochi safely, along with their fishing equipment. Fishermen going through the vicinity are advised to exercise care since the boat has sunk in the water, according to P Aneesh, assistant director of Vypeen Fisheries.

Around 3:30 pm, the boat began to sink in the sea, and around 3:45 pm, the fisheries department received the warning. After being saved, all of the fisherman were checked into Ernakulam General Hospital for medical attention. Every one of them is steady.

Albin, 65, of Puthuvype, Antony, 71, of Kadungassery, Apanraj, 53, of Andhra Pradesh, Gopal, 54, of West Bengal, and Nazeer, 50, of South Malipuram are the fisherman who were saved. Owner of the boat is Sanjose.
