India reports 109 instances of the COVID-19 subtype. JN.1. In which states were the most illnesses recorded?

As of December 26, India has documented 40 more instances of the COVID-19 JN.1 subvariant, bringing the total number of cases to 109, according to government sources on Wednesday.

34 cases were reported from Karnataka, 36 cases were found in Gujarat, 9 cases were recorded from Maharashtra, 4 cases each from Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, and 2 infections were reported from Telangana, according to news agency PTI.

Sources informed PTI that the majority of the patients were isolated at home.

According to Dr. V K Paul, a member of NITI Aayog’s Health committee, officials were attentively examining the new variation as of last week. He did, however, emphasize that governments needed to bolster their monitoring systems and expedite the testing procedure.

Government representatives stress that there is no urgent reason for alarm, even in light of the rising number of cases and the discovery of the JN.1 sub-variant in the nation. According to official statistics, 92% of those sick are opting for home-based therapy, indicating a minor disease.

Hospitalization rates have not increased, according to officials, and COVID-19 infections among patients admitted for other illnesses are coincidental.

In a letter to the states and union territories, Union Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant emphasized the importance of COVID-19 control and management policies and urged them to implement critical public health measures.

States have been tasked with making sure that the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s operational instructions for the updated COVID-19 surveillance plan are implemented effectively.

To help with the early discovery of any growing trends in instances, authorities have asked all health institutions to continuously monitor and report district-wise cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI).

India’s COVID-19 case count increased by 529 instances per day on Wednesday, according to the health ministry. As of Wednesday, there were 4,093 active cases.

The ministry’s data updated at 8 am shows that three fresh deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, with two recorded in Karnataka and one in Gujarat.
